Shawn J. De Veau, JD

Interim & Transitional Management Specialist

Shawn has served for over 25 years in Student Affairs. He currently serves as the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs/Dean of Students at the University of Massachusetts Boston, a role he has held since January 2023.


Shawn has been at UMass Boston for over five years, serving as Associate Dean of Students and Deputy Title IX Coordinator for 3 years and Interim Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs for 1 year. Prior to his arrival at UMass Boston, he acted as an interim administrator and consultant for over eight years, working at institutions such as Wellesley College, the University of Rhode Island, Texas A&M – Commerce, St. Joseph’s College (NY), University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, the University of Texas Medical Branch and others. 


Prior to these roles, he served in a variety of full-time positions including Dean of Students at Merrimack College (MA) – managing or supervising the student conduct system, orientation programs, residence life, student involvement, intramurals and club sports, health center, international programs, career services and co-operative education, campus center operations, police services, event planning and bookstore operations. 

.His degrees are from the University of Massachusetts Lowell and Boston University School of Law.
